With the news being dominated by the massive oil spill in the Gulf, I feel I should rant about something. During the onset of this disaster, Rush Limbaugh said on his radio show "this oil spil isn't as big of a deal as the environmental groups are making it. The sea can absorb the oil and everything will be fine." (I paraphrased the comment, but that's the jist of it.)
Um, Rush...did you fail 4th grade science? I pretty sure that there aren't many elementary school students that don't know that oil and water don't mix. Do you really think your listeners are that stupid to believe that the oil will just mix in with the sea water? Do you not see the oil coming ashore? Maybe your vision got blurred from the prescription pain killer addicition you had, or maybe to quote a cartoon from Newgrounds.com...
"Rush Limbaugh, you are a fucking moron!"

2.) It does float on top of the water, but it makes it harder for sunlight and
oxygen to get into the water, making it difficult for the fish to get oxygen.
That's the quick explanation, which I base on what I remember from 10th grade
biology. Posted by Minivan at 6:16pm on Jun/08/2010

3.) Ah, okay. I didn't think of it that way. Posted by Xelger at 8:46am on Jun/09/2010
4.) Also, it can be dispersed in the water at very small concentrations... like
several parts per million from what I understand. Can still fuck with the
fishies.
As for rush, he's an idiot. Posted by j-man at 4:26pm on Jun/09/2010

that, I mean that shouldn't the water under the oil be fine for the fish to live
in? As long as they aren't near the pipe of course. It would be detrimental to
the air-breathers though of course, since they have to surface to breathe. Posted by Xelger at 10:28am on Jun/08/2010
