A friend of mine linked me to a great page to denounce all of the jerks out there who give everyone shit about watching dubbed anime.

This guy constructs his arguments so awesomely that there is no way to refute them. The best part is that he makes it a point to try to understand the subtard point of view. Though most of the subtard arguments get owned completely, there are one or two that are legitimate, and he makes it a point to agree with them at least.
"You're no less a 'true' anime fan if you choose to watch anime in your own language."
Watching subbed anime isn't the curse, the curse is the assholes who make subbed anime into a religion that must be forced down everyone's throats. Fuck them, and good night.
Comments:
2.) Translation alters meaning? That depends on who gets their hands on the anime.
4Kids is an abomination that mangles anything they get their hands on into a
tangled mess. However, most of the dubbed anime I watch doesn't come from 4Kids,
and is usually true to the originals, with the exceptions of some jokes and puns
that are only understood by the Japanese culture, in which case, I don't miss
them, because I don't understand them even with an explanation. Posted by Xelger at 12:32pm on Mar/22/2008

3.) The basic point of this is that the biggest subtards will not accept any form of
English dubbing, not even if it's a perfect translation from beginning to end.
These assholes won't leave dub watchers alone, and go to infinite lengths to
make them miserable over a difference of opinion. If you recall, Saddam was
executed for the exact same behavior. Posted by Xelger at 12:35pm on Mar/22/2008

4.) @ your second comment.
Yeah there's always something lost in the translation...to what extent depends
on how proficient the translator is in *both* languages...this is true for
fansubs and dubs

7.) If I had to make a choice though, I'd go for dubbing over subbing, in most
cases.
ok, so it looks out of sync, but it has the wonderful of ability of usually
seeming to have better voices. But only sometimes. When the girl has the really
high and screechy voice that nobody wants to hear, subbing is way better to go
with. Posted by Dark_Warrior2 at 11:17am on Mar/26/2008

for the record, one of the neat things about anime dvds is the multiple audio
tracks. That way you can let a friend watch it in whatever preference he/she
has.
I've watched my fair share of dubs, but i still prefer subtitled anime.
let's go through these arguments:
1) Subtitles are superior to dubs, because the translation is more accurate.
If we compare most fansubs to both the DVD subtitle track and engrish audio
track, the fansub usually blows them both out of the water. Cultural references
are sometimes explained by 'notes' either before the the episodes or during the
episode. As far as the translation being more accurate...depends on the fansub
group involved and their translator.
2) I only watch subtitles because I want the same original experience the
Japanese viewers received.
If i could say it without being as pretentious as the statement above, I'd say
to view it in the original creator's intention.
Localization/Translation of any kind alters meaning. This holds true for both
the sub and the dub. 4kid's One Piece is usually the example for how
localization can go horribly wrong. ( See vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=145 )
3) Subtitles are superior because you get to hear the original voices.
Same argument as above. But with extra flavor of dub actors being mostly poorly
trained/chosen up until the last 8 years. And then when english voice actors try
to sing >______>;;;...*thinks of ranma and macross*
4)The Japanese voice acting is always better than the English voice acting.
Didn't I just answer this question?
....
There was a lot of animosity towards Dubs in the old days. Why you may ask?
Elitism. The second reason was that subbed vhs tapes usually costed $5 more than
the dubbed tape...bitter much? yep. Now with the advent of dvds. The point of
subs vs dubs isn't that important. Nowadays, dubbed anime on tv has attracted a
new batch of anime fans...the annoying kind....ranging from 10-16. Just look at
sites like deviant-art or fanfiction.net and you'll see how anime exposure has
exploded....
...and gone horribly wrong
or....just look at this http://risemboolrangers.com/officers.html
fanclub of a english anime voice actor...that deserves a craptank entry of its
own....
